Technically speaking you could make money off of Adsense. Technically speaking, you could drive traffic to your site through Adwords (GASP). But, truthfully speaking I would not recommend either program (especially the latter) if you are an affiliate, and a beginner.
Now before you fall over grabbing your chest hear me out. I am an internet marketer. Been around the block a few times (also spent a couple, few, (sigh) couple LOL thousands of dollars). I've participated in test products, new products, and the so called secret (gasp from the crowd) products of the master guru's.
There was one particular product that stands out to me. “With only 10 cents a click you can dominate Google. You will be supreme and actually bring down your clicks to 5 cents, front page!” I had a huge grin on my face. I had found my goldmine.
This new super secret technique would unlock the world's goldmine to me. And no one, I mean no one else must really know this. He said he had only 5 copies left (really, there was only like 105 total he supposedly was giving away).
I called my folks up and said, “I think I've found it”. I immediately entered my information and entered the super secret members lair (whoa).
As soon as I entered (for a measly 47 dollars mind you) I found out that I just had the average copper edition. There was an alright “silver edition”, a super cool “gold edition”, and for $599.99 the ultimate cool (with free e-books) platinum edition.
Well guess what genius (me) chose to do. Of course I upgraded. But what I found was unsettling. There is a term I use called the Google Pirates. Now these pirates take all of your gold, but after so long they come up with little restrictions as to what your site can look like.
After blowing many dollars you will soon find out you are a “landing page”, or a “launch site”, or Google Pirate's just don't plain like your site. It's too ugly. Not pretty enough. Then, all your advertisements are pulled and your Google pass is revoked.
Being a new marketer (I was so green back then) I couldn't believe this happened to me. I received the dreaded email from the all powerful Google Pirates stating “Account Suspended”. Not only was this a blow to my ego, but it also was a blow to my wallet.
Also, to make matters worse I spent tons of cash on advertisements and clicks. Instead of the beautiful golden 10 cents per click I was up to $1.50-3.55 per click! Needless to say I was furious. So I wanted my money back.
Sad to say the Google Guru who sold me the kit disappeared. I guess I purchased the No Money Back Guarantee because I was short a couple thousand dollars (after the final tally). Now there are many ways to market your site. A lot of new ways that are exciting. And if you must PPC at least PPC responsibly through Bing or Adknowledge (you get more for your buck there).
I learned my lesson. But this is just my experience. Google might work for you. If it does more power to you. On my site I have other methods of advertising that won't cost you an arm, leg, or your ego. Learn from your mistakes, and get better at what you do.
